How to Update/Renew WPBakery in WordPress

You’re probably here because you’re unable to update WPBakery in WordPress due to a missing or expired license.

Most of the time, you’ll see a message that says “An error occurred while updating WPBakery Page Builder: To receive automatic updates license activation is required.”

In this case, either your license key got disconnected or it has expired.

In this quick tutorial, I’ll show you how to get your license activated and connected to your WordPress site.

Sourcing Your License

Before we begin, I must mention that your WPBakery license may have been included with a theme that you purchased. In this case, you should contact the theme developer to see what steps are required to access your license.

Otherwise, you’ll need to purchase your own license key which I will demonstrate in this tutorial.

Activate Via WordPress Dashboard

Begin by logging into your WordPress dashboard.

At the top, you’ll see a notification from WPBakery that directs you to activate your license key. Click “activate your copy.”

If you don’t see this message, you can also navigate to the left admin sidebar. Under WPBakery Page Builder, click Product License.

This link will take you to the product license management page. Here, you should click Activate WPBakery Page Builder.

This will take you to your account dashboard in WPBakery. Log in or create an account here.

If your license is ready to go, you’ll see it listed on this page. Simply click Activate to connect it to your website.

If this doesn’t work, you’ll need to renew or purchase a new license. Then, repeat these steps.

That’s it! You’ll be redirected to WordPress if the activation is successful. Now you can update WPBakery as usual.

Activate Via WPBakery Website

If you want to download the plugin file and install it directly through WordPress, you can do this through WPBakery’s support site.

To access your WPBakery account, login at support.wpbakery.com.

Here, you’ll see an overview of your license and its status. Be sure to purchase the license if it is expired.

To download your licensed plugin, click Downloads on the left sidebar. Then, click the Download button.

Save this file to your computer. Now, you can upload it directly to WordPress or send it to your developer to install and update.
